Upset customers have been responding to the news that one of Camborne’s shops will be shutting in a matter of weeks.

Peacocks Camborne posted a note on its Facebook page today (Friday) to announce that it would be closing its doors for the final time in just over five weeks.

The store in Trelowarren Street said it was “with a really heart” that it was informing customers it would be closing down on Wednesday, April 3.

Announcing the news, the clothing shop said: “It's with a really heavy heart that we have to announce that we are currently closing down.

“Our final day of trade is the 3rd of April 2024. We would like to thank every single customer who has walked through our doors and supported us over the years.”

The news prompted customers to share their disappointment.

One said: “Such a shame. You've worked so hard to drum up sales too,” while another said: “Camborne and Redruth are becoming ghost towns.”

In response to comments from upset customers, the store gave a further insight into the closure, saying: “Luckily it isn't to do with our performance. It's due to unsuccessful lease negotiations.”

A sign in the store’s window states that the next nearest shop is in Market Jew Street, Penzance.

It follows the closure of the Helston store in March 2022, which shut suddenly without warning for similar reasons.

At the time the Helston store manager posted a statement saying: "It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Peacocks in Helston has closed its doors for the last time today (March 23). It came as a great shock to myself and the staff as we did not know ourselves until late this morning!

"Peacocks wanted to keep the store in Helston but unfortunately they have not been able to come to an agreement with the landlord, who now wants us out of his building within the week.

"I would just like to say to all my staff past and present thank you, you've been amazing and thank you so much to all our customers over the years for supporting us, I will miss you.”
