Howsever, for one day only this month that distance with close, when a Cornish college and the Federation of Drama Schools (FDS) bring some of the UK’s best drama schools to Cornwall.

The initiative aims to help aspiring performing arts students in Cornwall who find it challenging and costly to attend multiple open days at specialist institutions elsewhere in the UK, particularly in expensive cities such as London.

The free event will be held on March 12 at Truro and Penwith College.

Kit Savage, deputy team lead in Performing Arts at Truro and Penwith College, said: “Cornwall is a peninsular where the average wage is more than 20% lower than the national average: with large pockets of deprivation making a visit for an open day very expensive and prohibitive for many due to geographical and economic factors.
