A local band is gearing up for their first gig after a break – and it's all for a very good cause.

The Fast Track Big Band will perform classics from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Ella Fitzgerald, and many more at a charity ball on Saturday, March 16, at the Old Cattle Market in Helston.

The charity ball is being held to help to support local funeral director Jamie Richards who has signed up for the London Marathon in April.

Jamie is taking on the marathon to raise money for Princess Alexandra's Maternity Unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital – a cause which is close to his heart.

Explaining why he wants to raise funds for the unit, Jamie said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be running the London Marathon in April 2024 after a five-year hiatus - and for a very important charity to me personally.

"I owe so much to the Royal Cornwall Hospital: I was born there in 1987, they saved my life after contracting pneumonia in 1992 and my daughter Georgia was born in the maternity ward in May last year.

"My wife Kirsten also works at the hospital as a Chaplain, supporting patients, families, and staff. It's fair to say that we've got a lot to be thankful for and that's down to the wonderful staff at the hospital."
