Many businesses particularly in the Arwenack Street area were left without power on Tuesday morning because of a "sparking" link box.

Falmouth town centre manager Richard Gates said that the The National Grid worked on the issue all morning and by the afternoon power was back on for moat businesses.

The issue came just as hundreds of children prepared to parade through the street for the St Piran's Parade which Mr Gates and Falmouth BID manager Richard Wilcox were helping organise.

The safety of the children had be ensured before the parade could go ahead.

Mr Gates said the issue had been caused by a sparking link box which had affected power for some businesses.

He said in a message to businesses in Falmouth:  "You will be aware there has been power issues in the street today.

"This was a ‘link box’ that was sparking and affecting business power. National Grid have been working on this through the morning and some power is now back on but not all.

"Richard Wilcox was on site once the problem was known and spoke to several businesses in that area this morning, while I was overseeing the St Piran’s activities and also making sure it was safe at the start of Market Street.

"Marshals have arrived to help coordinate traffic and town council staff supported this morning."
