There were rave reviews for Penrice Academy's production of Oliver JR.

The school's much-awaited performance brought down the house last week.

The school's annual production, built around timeless tunes like "Consider Yourself", "Food Glorious Food", and "Oom-Pah-Pah", had audiences 'buzzing' with energy across three nights.

The Assembly Hall echoed with energy as more than 200 spectators filled its seats each night.

The applause at the end of the performances attested to the students' talent.

Penrice School's week of shows culminated in a special daytime performance for visiting primary schools on Friday.

Tanya Coleman, Penrice's headteacher, shared her pride in being associated with the school and talent it fosters.

From acting and singing to production aspects like props, lighting and audio, Ms Coleman was thoroughly impressed.

She praised the dedication, determination and teamwork from the students involved, and also extended her gratitude to the Oliver JR 2024 staff production team, for inspiring future theatre hopefuls.

Preparation for the staging of Oliver JR started back in the summer term of 2023 with auditions.

The actors and actresses attended two rehearsals every week, a testament to their commitment.

The set, costume and prop design team, stationed in the Penrice workshops, worked behind the scenes to make the production more alive.

In her closing statement, Ms Coleman said: “This week’s performances really illustrates how key character traits such as self-discipline, resilience and commitment can deliver an outstanding outcome. These traits are not just relevant to the performing arts, but in all walks of life.
