National Highways has confirmed when the next closure of the A30 in Cornwall is happening in March – as well as a new temporary road layout being introduced this month.
Currently a full closure is in place every other weekend while teams battle to finish the remainder of the dualling work between Chiverton and Carland Cross on schedule, ahead of its its new opening date.
The new dualled stretch had been expected to open at the end of this month, but is now forecast to be ready for traffic in June, with assurances it will be in time for the summer school holidays.
After a break in disruption today and tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday), motorists can expect further diversions in place this coming week, with both overnight closures on weeknights and then a full closure again next weekend.
National Highways will be closing the A30 overnight between Boxheater and Chiverton from this Monday, March 18, until Thursday, March 21, from 8pm to 6pm.
This will lead up to a weekend closure between Boxheater and Chiverton from 8pm on Friday (March 22) to 6am on Monday (March 25).
All traffic during the closures - including HGVs and high sides vehicles - will be diverted via the B3285 and A3075, as shown in the diagram below.
Access for local residents north and south via the B3284 at Chybucca will be maintained throughout.
National Highways said: “The closures will be focused on surfacing and infrastructure work along the route.
“Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys during these closures.”
New layout at Carland Cross from late March
As the eastern section progresses, National Highways has revealed it will soon be moving traffic to a new layout at Carland Cross.
A temporary alignment of the A30 will be in place as teams continue work on the new junction. A plan of the new layout is shown below.
