Penponds School in Camborne has been awarded a 'Good' as its latest rating following an Ofsted inspection.

It marked the first inspection since the school converted to an academy in 2014.

The school, which is part of The Rainbow Multi Academy Trust, is led by headteacher Rebekah Bailey, with Samantha Jones CEO of the MAT, and is overseen by trustees chaired by Patrick McGovern.

Ofsted inspectors visited the school on February 21 and 22.

Inspectors found that: "Staff at Penponds are united in their vision for pupils to ‘Aim high and achieve our best.’"

The report further stated that school personnel "work tirelessly" to ensure the students’ welfare, encouraging them to form trusting relationships with adults on site.

An impressive personal development programme has been implemented at the school, with an explicit focus on teaching children about good behaviour.

The inspectors noted: "The school teaches its pupils about what good behaviour looks like.

"As a result, pupils behave well with positive attitudes to learning."

Parents and carers gave positive reviews about the school.

One parent said: "'Our children love their teachers and look forward to going to school.

"If we ever want to chat about anything with the staff, they always make themselves available."

While the report praised the ambition and sequencing of the school curriculum, it recognised an area for improvement that would raise its inspection rating even higher.

According to Ofsted: "On some occasions the work that teachers give pupils does not match the high ambition of the curriculum.

"They do not take into account what pupils can already do and stretch their thinking."

However, the schol was praised for its care for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Additionally, the school was applauded for its efforts in keeping student absences to a minimum to ensure pupils do not miss out on critical educational content.

Inspectors also praised Penponds for its external collaborations and how it helps instil social and moral understanding in the pupils, as well as recognise diversity. These include organisations like Cornwall Pride and Black Voices Cornwall.

Ofsted also found that the safeguarding arrangements at Penponds School are effective.

All these findings helped to bolster the institution's overall 'Good' Ofsted rating.
