Helston Theatre Company celebrates girl power in their upcoming production which tells the tale of friendships, love, and the importance of standing up for what's right.
"Made in Dagenham," a musical based on the true story of the Ford sewing machinists who fought for equal pay in the 1960s, is being performed in Helston all this week.
Set in 1968 Dagenham, East London, the story follows Rita O’Grady (played by Eloise Roseby) – a feisty factory worker who becomes an unlikely leader in the fight for equal pay.
When Rita and her fellow female machinists discover they’re being paid significantly less than their male colleagues for the same work, they decide to take a stand.
Fuelled by a desire for justice, Rita becomes the unlikely leader of a fight that will challenge the status quo and demand fair wages for these skilled women.
Helston Theatre Company have been promoting this production for many weeks, with several shops in the town displaying a sewing machine in their windows – a fun nod to the upcoming show.
Local businesses which have supported the show have also been thanked by Helston Theatre Company.
Made in Dagenham is at the Epworth Hall in Helston from Tuesday, April 16 to Saturday 20. The show will commence from 7.30pm each night, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday, April 20.
