Vehicle transporter fire at Carland Cross in Cornwall

The initial call to the fire was logged at 12.38am, with fire engines immediately mobilised from Perranporth Community Fire Station, St Dennis Community Fire Station, St Columb Community Fire Station, and Truro Community Fire Station.

The first call was logged just after 12.30am this morning (Image: St Dennis Community Fire Station) Recognising the need for large volumes of water, a specialist water carrier appliance from Helston Community Fire Station was also dispatched to the scene near Mitchell.

On arrival, crews were confronted with a well-developed fire engulfing the transporter.

The transporter was carrying at least eight other vehicles when the fire broke out. The cab of the truck, as well as the three vehicles closest to it, were destroyed.

Multiple firefighters wore breathing apparatuses to protect themselves from smoke and fumes while working close to the intense heat.

Recognising the need for large volumes of water, a specialist water carrier appliance from Helston Community Fire Station was also dispatched to the scene near Mitchell (Image: Helston Community Fire Station) Crews used a combination of two powerful main jets and two ground monitors. Hose reel jets were also used to tackle specific areas.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 12.38am on April 10, 2025, four fire engines from Perranporth, St Dennis, St Columb, Truro, and the water carrier from Helston attended a large vehicle fire at Carland Cross.
