Falmouth Primary pupils face the dragons

Successful entrepreneurs always need to get ahead and this was the case at Falmouth Primary School as year six pupils pitched their business ideas in the school’s very own Dragon’s Den.

As part of the school’s business enterprise project and My Money initiative across UK schools, the pupils gave presentations to the dragons, including acting headteacher Claire Smith.

Each group chose products and in their presentation asked for an investment to help sell their products at the school’s business fair on July 10. All profit they make will go back into the classroom.

Claire Smith said: “Projects like this get the children to start thinking about working together and gives them a good understanding of business which will help them with their future development.

“It also gives them practice in vital skills, for example how to give presentations. It’s not just about the end product.”

In their presentations, the children told the dragons about their product and the market research they had done – finding out how much pocket money their friends get and how much they would be willing to spend – before saying how much money they needed and calculating the profit.

Among the groups pitching was Jiggle Jaggle, who were selling magnetic tiles and transfer stickers and Gr8 Gadgets, who asked the dragons to invest in bookmarks and door hangers with foam stickers.
