Flushing Regatta Week is nearly here and as ever there is a fun packed week for everyone with events being held at places throughout the village.
Starting on Saturday July 18 with a beach fun day, off Kiln Quay, organised by Flushing and Mylor Pilot Gig Club, we continue into the evening with live music and a BBQ at the Royal Standard in the village.
Sunday sees the now famous Flushing Snail Grand Prix, in its 6th year - everyone is welcome to join in, but must bring their own snail. Snails have been in training around Flushing, but who will win this year? This is followed by the small pet show and dog show. Sunday evening is rounded off with a mystery boat trip with Enterprise Boats with local historian, Alan Cox onboard to tell all.
The rest of the week includes fun events such as Sandcastle Competition, Bath Tub Racing, Coventry Road Street Market, Nankersey Choir Concert, a pub quiz at the Seven Stars, a family sports day including a Mini Marathon from Flushing to Mylor and back, Crab Catching and a Barn Dance with The Other Band.
On the final Saturday, Flushing are again going Car Free for the day after the success of last year. A car park is being provided by Tregew Farm at the top of the village and a Free mini bus shuttle service will be running from 11.00 am till 10pm. Youngsters from Penryn Rowing Club will be marshalling and a donation in their bucket would be much appreciated for their help on the day, Saturday is a water based day and starts with the now famous Trawler Race with boats decked out in bunting and flags. Then onto Praam racing and swimming – no water polo this year due to the tides… Saturday continues with Sail Racing organised by Flushing Sailing Club, with the finish line off New Quay, Flushing, so come and watch the spectacular racing taking place from 1pm and enjoy the Flushing Ladies Teas.
In the evening we invite anyone to join in with the Grand Carnival (walking only). Tregew Farm for a 6pm assembly and then join the revelers in Flushing. With Penzamba Band and a traffic free Flushing, it should be a great evening.
Sunday is the final day with an Open Air Service on Flushing Sailing Club Quay at 6pm, which is to be conducted by the Reverend Arthur Cowburn.
Programmes with full details of day to day events are available from Flushing Village Shop, Royal Standard, Seven Stars, Tregew Farm Shop and Mylor Stores.
