A grand old man of Falmouth pasties is celebrating 60 years of making the tasty treats.

Charles Choak, of JH and M Choak on Killigrew Street has been making the iconic Cornish delicacy himself for 50 years, with his father before him making them since 1949.

Mr Choak said: “It is great that the art of making them has not been lost. There was a period when the big companies were making them and giving the real pasties a bad name.”

It used to be that mince was used but now we use only best quality beef skirt.

The business was started in shop on Swanpool Street where Dig and Delve now sits. At that time Mr Choak said his father and Mr Rowe, who later went on to set up the successful company Rowe’s, were partners before he branched out on his own.

Mr Choak still works in the mornings at his store and the tradition is being passed onto his daughter, who is taking over the business.
