A skateboarding and BMX day has been held for youngsters in the Falmouth area.

The police and fire brigade joined forces for the aptly named Wheels of Fire event, which was held in the grounds of Falmouth’s Dracaena Centre.

There were demonstrations and coaching from experts, plus the chance to win prizes in a “show and shine” car show, in which youngsters can show off their modified cars to their peers.

It was organised as part of SAFE – a youth project in Cornwall that stands for Street Activities for Everyone, which aims to encourage young people to do something positive and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Youngsters were able to chat informally officers from the police’s community safety teams about issues that were worrying them or about how their lives could be improved.

The RNLI and officers from the air and sea cadet programmes gave out recruitment information. The event was supported by Falmouth Community Network Team and other businesses in the area, with prizes donated from Freeriders, Sessions and the Grip Skate Shop in Helston.
