Lanner to have permanent speed sign

A permanent sign warning drivers to slow down is being placed in Lanner.

The news has been welcomed by Mark Kaczmarek, Cornwall Councillor for St Day and Lanner.

In a letter written to Mr Kaczmarek, Chloe Lorraine, Cornwall Council’s transport policy officer, confirmed the vehicle-activated sign – which displays a message when motorists travel over the speed limit – will be placed permanently on the approach to Lanner from the Redruth.

The sign will flash up a reminder of the 30mph speed limit and a picture of a speed camera, warning of the mobile speed camera that is used in the area.

Mr Kaczmarek said: “This is good news, because what the council were planning to do following the speed limit review was make the short stretch of 40mph over the top of Lanner Hill into a 30mph limit.

“They would have had to comply with government guidelines and take away the large “30mph Please Drive Carefully” sign positioned as you enter the village, because it would already be within a 30mph limit.

“I would not support this and insisted that the village approach needed a 30mph sign, so they have agreed that by creating a 30mph speed limit from Redruth Tesco to the Coppice end of Lanner.

“They have addressed my concerns and although they will remove the existing sign, which will be non-compliant, in its place will be a new “Lanner Please Drive Carefully sign” with a separate permanent speed visor camera.”
