Novice rowers from Falmouth Gig Club have marked the end of the season with some fun racing.

Groups on the three gigs, Energy, Idas and Fury, took part in hard-fought races across to Flushing beach. The event was organised by Emma Campbell, the vice captain of novice rowing, and supported by club captain Vicky Drummond.

Vicky said: “'I was extremely impressed by the enthusiasm of our novices rowers and their determination to have a good time.

“They are showing great promise and we look forward to seeing them in action over the winter season.”

Afterwards the rowers enjoyed a pint and a bite to eat in the Oddfellows Arms and raised money for the Prince’s Trust with a raffle, with the star prize a handcrafted model of Fury, and a sponsored row to Truro.

Emma Campbell said: “We've welcomed hundreds of people of all ages and abilities onto the water to try their hand at gig rowing. We look forward to welcoming more through the winter and next year.

“I’d like to thank everyone who turned up to make the end of season event such a success and particular thanks must go to Vicky Sear, landlady of the Oddfellows Arms and herself a keen gig rower, for her ongoing support.”
