Man-of-the-moment Neil Southall grabbed eight goals as Helston eclipsed their five-star performance against Sticker last week by thumping 13 goals past a hapless Portreath at Kellaway Park on Saturday.

From the very start it was one-way traffic in this Jolly’s Combination match with Portreath struggling to contain the Blues.

Although Helston had several chances to score two or three goals in the first ten minutes of this match it wasn’t until the 12th minute that Neil Southall opened the scoring.

The Blues were now up and running and Portreath’s goalkeeper was the busiest man on the pitch for long spells of this game.

On 17 minutes Reg Pearson whacked in a second goal from just inside the box after beating one defender and spinning around another before being replaced by Tom Lake, who was making his first senior appearance for the club.

Alan Collick made it 3-0 before Southall scored another three well-taken goals to make it 6-0 at half-time.

Centre back Phil Black had a good game in defence for the Blues and Helston enjoyed long spells of possession and produced some great football throughout.

In the second minute of the second half a great cross into the box allowed Southall to grab his seventh goal of the match before Jordan Aldred added an eighth. Southall netted the ninth and tenth before a superb individual run and strike by Mageor made it 11.

Lake scored into the far corner of the net for his first senior goal for number 12 before the rout was completed by man-of-the-match Southall late on.

Portreath to their credit kept on battling and their goalkeeper Steve Putman making several saves but unfortunately for them it was a case of men against boys for long periods of the game and they have now conceded 35 goals in their last three matches and still lie at the foot of the table with no points.

A minutes silence was held before the match for sports reporter and supporter Greg Nicholls and Kevin Willey, who lost his battle with cancer at the age of 58.
