Eight more members of Hayle Surf Life Saving Club recently gained a Life Saving qualification.

Will Clift, Jordan Harris, Dan Morse, Trish Merrett, Dan Moore and Laura Smith passed their SLSGB Beach Lifeguard assessment which will enable them to apply for Beach Life guard jobs on local beaches next summer.

James Harrison and Aaronn Wilson gained their Beach Lifeguard Support Award qualifying them to provide safety cover at our club sessions. This was the last course for the year run by Club Instructor, Pezz Perry and was completed just before he jetted off to Australia to deservedly spend the winter months in a warmer climate. Club Captain, Dave Parker said: “As usual the standard of the candidates was very high due to the excellent teaching of Pezz Perry. Pezz has excelled himself this year by running 4 courses, two for non members and two for members of the Club, and achieving a very high pass rate with 31 people qualifying as Beach Lifeguards since March.

“The SLSGB Beach Lifeguard qualification can be obtained through our Club in one of two ways – for members the course is run over a number of weeks and is currently free - we also run one week intensive courses for non-members at a cost of £120 to include the cost of the manual and exam fee. “Both courses will be available next year dictated by demand and will be advertised on our “news” website at http://hayleslscnews.website.orange.co.uk. The minimum age is 16 and you must be able to swim 400m in a swimming pool within 7 minutes 30 seconds. To register your interest please e-mail our Training Officer, Steve Penberthy at smpenberthy@googlemail.com.”
