On Sunday, St Peter’s and the Methodists held a joint Remembrance Service in the chapel.

The service was led by St Peter’s priest-in-charge, the Rev Andrew Stevenson. The preacher was Methodist minister, the Rev Peter Facer. He began his sermon by saying that he had visited war graves and was appalled by the waste of so many young lives. He went on to say that most of us were guilty in some way or other, but if we tried to do what Jesus Christ said, which was not only to love our neighbour but also to love our enemies and those that hate us, only then will the world be a more peaceful place.

The lesson was read by Roger Hygate, St John chapter 15 v 9-17 and Christopher Bennett was organist.

There followed a short service at the War Memorial on the Quay, where the names of the fallen in the two World Wars were read out in an act of remembrance.

A wreath was laid by the vice chairman of the parish council, Alan Berryman. The Last Post was played by Luke Stevenson.
