Firefighters from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are throwing open the doors of Falmouth Community Fire Station on Sunday from 11am as they host an open day featuring fun events and activities for all the family.

There will be the chance to compare then and now as a vintage fire appliance is put on display and visitors will be invited to join in the fun with a pasty eating competition; tug o war; splat the rat as well as a barbeque and refreshments.

There will be life saving demonstrations and community safety advice from the Fire Service and from partner organisations including the RNLI, HM Coastguard, Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club, Devon and Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service.

Cornwall Council cabinet member for stronger communities Lance Kennedy said: "All are welcome to come and have some fun and learn some serious safety messages along the way."

Matt Glover from Falmouth Community Fire Station says: "An ideal opportunity for all to meet the watches of Falmouth Fire Station. I'm really looking forward to throwing open the doors and welcoming in the public."
