People of Falmouth gathered on the Prince of Wales Pier on Armistice Day, to pay tribute to those who had fallen in war.

Rev Barrington Bennetts conducted the service, with the two minutes silence observed impeccably. Cannons fired from Pendennis Point indicated the beginning and end of the silence.

The siren at Falmouth Docks also sounded. Town mayor Geoffrey Evans and town clerk Mark Williams joined other councillors and members of Falmouth's Royal British Legion for the service.

Sounding the last post at the service was Jamie Telling, who has recently competed at the South West band championships in Torquay.

Similar scenes were played out in Penryn, at the town's Memorial Gardens.

Mayor Mary May and town councillors joined Penryn's Royal British Legion for a service by the war memorial, with youngsters from the Jumblies Day Nursery laying poppies they had made.

In Mawnan Smith pupils from Mawnan Primary School laid crosses at the village war memorial during a service led by parish council chairman Denis Gartside and the Rev Geoffrey Bennett.
