A Truro pub is feeling flushed with success after winning a top award for the quality and standards of its toilets.
The JD Wetherspoon pub Try Dowr on Lemon Quay achieved the highest rating possible in the 2009 Loo of the Year Awards.
It was awarded a five star rating by inspectors.
The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of “away from home” toilet arrangements across the UK.
Inspectors made unannounced visits to more than 1,500 toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.
All of the toilets were graded from one star to the maximum five star rating, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.
The toilets were judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
Try Dowr manager Christopher Martin said: “I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”
Mike Bone, Loo of the Year Awards director, described the Truro pub’s toilets as “superb.”
