Vicky Taylor, wife of local MP Matthew Taylor, has donated her Jenny Packham wedding dress to an auction to raise funds for Cornwall’s Women’s Domestic Violence Support Network.
The Women’s Domestic Violence Support Network is part of the Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Cornwall. In recent years the Network had been significantly reduced due to lack of funds, but thanks to a grant from the Parent Network it is now back and ready to help.
The ‘Glitz and Glamour’ auction at Claremont Hall in Newquay this Saturday marks the re-launch of the Women’s Domestic Violence Support Network in Cornwall. The auction will help raise funds for and promote the organisation.
Commenting, Vicky Taylor said: “When I was approached about making a donation to the ‘glitz and glamour’ auction in aid of the Women’s Domestic Violence Support Network I wanted to help. My marriage to Matthew is a loving and kind one, but I know sadly relationships don’t always work that way. My thoughts immediately went to my wedding dress - it is special to me, and I hope it can now help the network and be just as special to someone again.
“It’s a sad fact that for some women marriage isn’t a safe or supportive relationship. Yet leaving an abusive relationship can require a lot of help and support – I’m so pleased that women in Cornwall now once again have a network that they can turn to in their time of need and am absolutely delighted to be able to help.”
Polly Amos, from the Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Cornwall said: “Here at the Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Cornwall are so humbled and grateful to Matthew and Vicky for their support, this is the most personal and generous of donations.”
The ‘Glitz and Glamour’ auction will be held at the re-launch of the Women’s Domestic Violence Support Network at Claremont Hall, Beachfield Avenue, Newquay from 2 – 6pm which will also include refreshments, information stands, films, speakers.
