BALWEST METHODIST CHURCH: When the congregation arrived on Sunday morning to prepare for the Advent Sunday service, they found there were no lights, no heating and no power for the music, due to an external breakdown in the electricity supply. Not knowing when power would be restored, it was decided to cancel the service and return home. Many of the congregation attended the Advent service at Porthleven in the evening.

LION & LAMB: On December 4 entertainment is by Bob Seymour.

Although on a smaller scale than in previous years, the new village committee have managed at short notice to erect a few Christmas lights in the village which will be switched-on on Saturday, December 5 from the front of the Lion & Lamb. It is hoped to have a barbecue, mince pies and singing of well known carols.

PAPER BANK: The waste paper bank will be back at Balwest on December 5. There will be a spcial Christmas coffee morning in the Sunday school room from 10am to 12 noon.

ASHTON CHURCH: To celebrate the Feast of St Andrew on November 30, the parish priest, the Rev Penny Prince, was the celebrant at the service of holy communion. The epistle was read by Bevan Osborne and Vicar Penny read the gospel.

There will not be a service of evensong on Sunday, December 13. This will allow members of the congregation to join the carol service at Breaney Chapel that evening.

On Friday, December 18 at 7.30pm there will be community carols in church.
