To celebrate Advent Sunday and the beginning of the Church’s year, Parish Communion was replaced by an Advent Carol Service, with seven lessons from scripture interspersed with hymns and carols concerning God’s promises to send a righteous king to bring peace and freedom.

The short address was preached by the Rector, Canon David Miller, who also led the prayers. Canon Miller said that Advent reminds us to be alert to the signs of God’s kingdom that are all around us, but easily missed if we become too busy to make space for prayer and reflection. In this Advent, we should watch and pray. The Rev Dorothy Noakes and Betty Booker, lay reader, assisted at the service. Six members of the laity read lessons and organist was Richard Berry.
