The award-winning children, parents and staff from Constantine Primary School will celebrate the launch of a new “Park and Stride” stop off point with a mass sing-along walk to school.

The musical walkers will meet at 8.30am on Thursday at the church car park on Vicarage Terrace and walk the safe route to school across the recreation ground, singing walking themed tunes such as Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots and Made for Walking and The Proclaimers’ I Would Walk 500 Miles.

The scheme, which is a play on words with term “Park and Ride,” gives the school’s pupils the chance to get safely to school in an environmentally-friendly way.

Parents are asked to park in a safe place away from the school and walk the remainder of the way, so that children who would normally be driven all of the way make part of their journey on foot.

This gives pupils exercise in the morning and reduces congestion in and around the school grounds, as well helping to tackle climate change and pollution.
