Penryn pets given advent calendar fun

You’d be barking mad to miss an advent calendar that has been put up at Penryn vets Amos and Penny.

Bringing some festive fun to the practice waiting room, veterinary nurse Helen Chapman-Green has build a giant Swiss alpine cottage out of cardboard.

Adorned with fake snow and a robin sitting on top of the chimney, the doors of the calendar open to reveal pictures of staff pets dressed up in Christmas hats as well as more serious advice to pet owners, such as the dangers of chocolate poisoning and harmful holly berries.

The project came about when one of the vets suggested putting an advent calendar in the waiting room and it quite literally snowballed from there.

Helen said: “It’s amazing what you can do with an old cardboard box, sticking tape and some lights.”

She added that she “dabbled” in art simply because she enjoyed it, joking: “I blame my parents for sitting me in front of Blue Peter and buying too many craft books.”

Staff were kept in the dark about the design of the calendar until December 1, with Helen sneaking it in late the night before.
