A Helston-based spiral and helical staircases company is going green as part of a major expansion of its premises.

Founded in 1985, Spiral Construction Ltd, which employs 52 highly skilled people at its base on the Water-Ma-Trout Industrial Estate will be bringing all its buildings and processes up to the highest international environmental standards, as part of the expansion.

The firm has a burgeoning reputation for the design and build quality of its staircases, created to order using advanced technology and precision engineering.

Purchasing Manager Pete Bell, “Because of what we do, controlling our environmental impact has always been at the heart of our business. Until now, though, we’ve had to work within the constraints of buildings that were constructed before environmental technologies were as advanced as they are today. We see the expansion as a great opportunity to bring everything up to the highest achievable level.

He added that there was also a hard-nosed commercial imperative for the investment as many customers, which include government departments and public sector organisations increasingly demand that their suppliers have strong environmental credentials.

The work has been made possible thanks to support from Business Link and specialist advisors Brendon Westacott and Nina Skubala.

Spiral was eligible for support under the enhanced Business Link Convergence service.
