Abduction rumours are "unfounded" say police

Police have described claims of attempted abductions of children in the Penzance area as "unfounded rumours."

The rumours had reached Breage Primary School, which warned parents in its newsletter to be "very vigilant" when letting children walk unaccompanied.

A police spokesman said officers had received a "number of calls from worried parents" in the region, but stressed: "Devon and Cornwall Police would like to reassure the public that no attempted abductions of children have taken place in the area and that the stories are unfounded rumours, not fact. Officers believe the rumours began on Facebook."
