A 61-year-old man died last night after a road accident near St Austell.

It was 10.30pm when the accident happened at St Mewans Dip.

Paramedics pronounced the man who was a pedestrian, dead at the scene.

The male driver of a green Mitusubishi Galant, believed to be from the St Austell area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later bailed while police conduct further enquiries.

The road was closed for just under six hours.
