Goonhilly Visitors Centre will not open at Easter

One of the largest tourist attractions in the Helston area will not be open to visitors during Easter and will remain closed until further notice, while a decision is made on its future.

Goonhilly Future World, the visitors centre and Segway tours - formerly known collectively as Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station - are all closed to the public.

A notice on the attraction's website said the attraction was "closed for Easter and beyond, until further notice."

The news will be a blow for the large number of temporary staff, the majority of which are students, who are usually contracted to work at the centre in the holidays at Easter and in particular during the summer months. At peak times up to 50 people have been employed.

Jason Mann, spokesman for BT which owns the site, said in a statement yesterday, Tuesday: "BT is currently looking at the future of the assets at Goonhilly including the Goonhilly Visitors Centre and is discussing options with other organisations.

"It would be inappropriate to provide any details on the organisations involved and the discussions until further progress has been made."
