Celebrity chef Antony Worral Thompson has proved he is a man of his word by assuring organisers of this year’s Porthleven Food Festival he will still attend the event – despite having to rush back to one of his restaurants later that day.
Mr Worral Thompson, patron of the festival, appears to have double booked himself by agreeing to give an hour-long cookery demonstration to open the Porthleven event, while having to prepare for evening diners at his Bath restaurant on the same day.
Despite what will no doubt be a hectic day, the chef has promised to honour both his commitments.
Mr Worral Thompson said: “It’s a treat to visit this festival – not to mention the honour of being patron, a role that I greatly enjoy. I love this part of the country and I love what it has to offer. I’m so impressed by the abundance of local produce, particularly the succulent meats, the freshness of the fish and the imagination of the food producers.”
Julia Schofield, chair of the festival committee, said: “ We’re delighted to have Antony back again this year. He’s an extremely popular personality and the fact he’s doing a demonstration for Porthleven, despite his hectic schedule, shows his commitment to the village, and the national importance of our local Cornish produce.
“He had such fun last year, he’s even staying into the afternoon to award the prizes to our fancy dress competitors.”
Porthleven Food and Music Festival started was first held last year and proved such a hit that this year it will take place over three days.
There will be an additional Young Persons’ Festival, a lecture from the Eden Project, music, dancing and over 40 food stalls, as well as demonstrations by six top Cornish chefs.
“ Despite the appalling weather last year people streamed into the village from all over Cornwall. This year we started receiving phone calls from as far afield as London as soon as we announced this year’s date last July,” added Ms Schofield.
The festival will take place between Friday, April 23 and Sunday, April 25.
