Round the world yachtsman Pete Goss has been helping fill charity coffers thanks to a his stories of high adventure on the seas.
Mr Goss was the main speaker at a special charity event in aid of educational charity Cornwall Playing for Success, at the Rose-in-Vale Hotel in Mithian, Cornwall, this week.
The tales ranged from his first transatlantic race to the famous Vendee Globe storm that saw him rescue fellow competitor Raphael Dinelli, resulting in Goss’s awards of an MBE by the Queen and the Legion d’Honneur by the French president, to his journey on the Spirit of Mystery, a 37 foot wooden replica lugger that he and his crew sailed to Melbourne, Australia, last year.
The event at the picturesque Rose-in-Vale Hotel was organised to raise funds for Spirit of Mystery which in turn supports Cornwall Playing for Success, which uses sport to improve young people’s learning and motivation in school.
More than 60 guests enjoyed a seven-course dinner prepared by the hotel’s award-winning chefs before settling back to listen to the astounding tales.
“The evening was a huge success,” said James Evans, owner of the Rose-in-Vale. “We were all riveted by the presentation. Pete Goss is truly inspirational. I don’t think any of us there will ever forget what he said.”
