GODOLPHIN ATLANTIC 3 PORTHLEVEN 3 A GOAL five minutes from time by Tim Peacock denied Porthleven all three points in their re-arranged fixture with Godolphin Atlantic on Saturday.

The two sides had already met at Goldophin Way earlier this season, but the match was abandoned with nine minutes left to play with Godolphin leading 3-1.

The home side, who had felt aggrieved at having to have replayed the match, started the brighter and took the lead after 20 minutes of the match. Jamie Wigg was the provider as he played a good through ball for skipper Kyle Brown to latch onto and lob the ball over Port’s keeper Jamie Gray.

However, the visitors hit back with two quick goals, both coming from corners taken by Matt Fox. The first was flicked on by Ashley Stidwell at the near post for the under pressure Oli Pernell to head into his own net.

Ashley Stidwell then got his head to the second corner at the far post to send a powerful shot into the roof of the Godolphin net. The lively period of play then continued just before the break when Phil Lowry cut across the edge of the area, before firing a low shot into the bottom corner of Gray’s net, to send the teams in level at the break.

Porthleven continued to press in the second half and were rewarded when Ed Timmons’ free-kick rebounded for Ashley Stidwell, who fired a shot from 25 yards past the Godolphin keeper.

Godolphin then looked to restore the lead moments later, but Wigg drove his shot over having been played in by Lowry.

With 20 minutes left to play Robbie Robinson came on for Alan Thomas.

Justin Searle then had a header, from point-blank range, saved by the Godolphin keeper as Port searched for the elusive killer goal.

However, it was not to come and following poor defending from a corner Peacock was able to send an unmarked header past Gray for the equaliser.

The drama was not to end their though as Dan Stidwell put the ball in the back of the net with two minutes to go only to have his effort ruled out for off-side. Porthleven will finish their league campaign on Saturday when they host Foxhole Stars at Gala Parc. Kick-off will be at 3pm.
