The May meeting took place at the Penmere Manor Hotel. Vice chairman, Don Parker, introduced Diane Warren and Angela John from the Health Promotion Service to talk about the benefits of laughter.
Diane started by stating that regular laughter is the best medicine and is better than visiting the gym! Diane said that it had been scientifically proven that laughter releases endorphins giving us a feel good factor and that it acts as aerobic exercise and is like internal jogging. In addition it reduced inhibition, helps boost our immune system, tones muscles, improves respiration and circulation and helps reduce stress and tension.
To demonstrate these points Diane and Angela led the members in games and jokes which had the meeting in fits of laughter.
In his vote of thanks, Mike McKenna said that Diane and Angela had undoubtedly improved the health, well-being and happiness of all present by making very serious points in such an interesting and amusing way.
