A cyclist making a mammoth 5,000 journey around the coastline of Britain has stopped off in Falmouth to visit old work Friends.

Phil Swanston, a former employee of Merlin Cinemas, which owns the Phoenix in Falmouth and is helping to sponsor his ride, set off on June to raise money for the Alzheimer's society.

Phil aims to cover 65 miles a day for three solid months and has set himself a fundraising target of £20,000.

He is supporting the charity after his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers over six years ago.

As Phil is carrying out the trip alone and unsupported he is appealing to those who live along the coastline to help him cut costs by offering a bed for a night.

The raise awareness of his journey Phil has decided to run a competition, with anyone who snaps a picture of him en route and sends it, along with a donation, via the website in with a chances of winning £200. Visit www.5000miles.co.uk. for more details.
