Pool leisure centre helps support jobseekers

People affected by redundancy will now have extra support thanks to the county’s largest community based leisure centre in Pool.

Carn Brea Leisure Centre is backing a “New Work” scheme by offering the venue free of charge for workshops aimed at giving people information, skills and real job opportunities.

Alex Clifton manager at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, said: “We didn’t have to think twice about supporting the New Work scheme.

“The leisure centre remains viable due to the fantastic support we receive from the local community. As a result we always look for ways in which we can help the community in times of need.

“This is a fantastic scheme and we are proud to be part of it.”

The centre will also be offering anyone who attends a free swimming session.

Robert Woolf of Penryn-based SEA Communications, who is delivering the project, said: “The kind of support being offered by Carn Brea Leisure Centre is vital to the scheme’s success and much appreciated. The centre is a brilliant example of how people working together in the community can make a real difference.”

Businesses signed up to support the project already include Origin Coffee, the St Moritz Hotel, The Cornish Oven, St Michael’s Hotel and Spa, St Austell Brewery and Merlin Cinemas.

Robert said: “If there are any other businesses in Cornwall that feel they can offer support, regardless of how big or small that help might be, it would be warmly welcomed.”
