Army cadets from Gibraltar Company comprising of platoons from West Cornwall - including Helston - were amongst 160 cadets taking part in a two-week summer camp at RAF St Mawgan.
While at the summer camp, cadets were involved in a wide range of challenging activities, including a night exercise on the Boconnoc Estate where they spent a night under canvas.
During the two week camp, all cadets completed elements of the two and three star levels of the Army Cadet Proficiency Certificate, with a selection passing the British Canoe Union one star awards, along with stage one and two of the Royal Yacht Association youth sailing awards scheme.
On the final parade, Cadet Company Sergeant Major Stephanie Bolton from Helston collected the Lines Cup on behalf of her company. The cup, presented by Colonel Les Donnithorne, is awarded to the company who achieves best barrack lines at camp.
The principal guest during the camp was Lady Mary Holborow, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall. Lady Mary was impressed by the enthusiasm of the cadets, and of their various achievements during the fortnight.
Next year the cadets plan to visit Penahlly Camp in Pembrokeshire, Wales, at the start of the school holidays.
