Penryn town hall is set to become a wedding ceremony venue thanks to the determination of a couple who want to marry in the “beautiful old building.”

At a meeting this week, councillors agreed to pursue the idea of obtaining a wedding licence for the hall following requests from Lee Warren and Esther Lochrie to marry there next July.

Lee and Esther, who have been engaged for four months and currently live in London but want to marry in Penryn where Esther grew up, even offered to pay for the licence for the hall, £1,250 because they wanted to get married there so much.

Esther said: “I definitely wanted to get married in Cornwall, I have lived most of my life in Penryn and it’s such a beautiful old building and a lovely place to get married. I was actually surprised to hear that they don’t do weddings there already.”
