Cornwall College lecturers have set the benchmark for their students by competing in this year's British Life Saving Sport Open Championships.
It’s the first time an English college has entered a national surf life saving championship, after Cornwall College became the first college in the UK to establish an accredited Surf Life Saving Academy earlier this year.
Lauren Mansfield, team manager and coach, established the Academy at the College in July of this year and hopes that future events will give Cornwall College students a chance to compete against British athletes.
Lauren said: “I have always been passionate about Surf Life Saving and saw an opportunity to establish a Surf Life Saving Club within the college for our local students.
“This has been a challenging but rewarding weekend for all of us who competed but it enabled us to identify the level of competition which we will be facing in future events. A big well done to all the staff involved whether it was through competing or support.”
