The county’s air ambulance could soon have a new base near Newquay Airport if a planning application is given the go-ahead.
Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust wants to create a purpose-built development to house the helicopter on the outskirts of the airport, alongside the teams that are in charge of the running of the helicopter and fundraising to keep it in the air.
It would also be a home to the helicopter’s clinical team, which is currently working from temporary buildings at the helicopter’s current landing pad at the airport.
The charity has said if the application is approved it would hope to get grants to fund the project.
A spokesperson added that the move would open up the opportunity of having two helicopters.
