Two grandmothers from Penzance have raised around £2,000 for charity after running five marathons in five days.
Running partners Irene Hewings and Debbie Drake ran from Penzance to Torquay in five epic jogs.
The first run took then from Penzance to Falmouth, where they were joined by members of Falmouth Roadrunners at Ponsharden who joined them for the last leg of their journey. Greeted by the mayors of Falmouth and Penryn, they were presented with a bottle of pink bubbly and a card of congratulations.
The next morning, Irene and Debbie set off on the second marathon, which was from St Mawes to Fowey, then Polruan to Torpoint, the fourth from Plymouth to Kingsbridge, and the last section was from Kingsbridge to Torquay.
Irene is a member of the fundraising group the Lions, and although the figure for her and Debbie’s efforts has not been finalised, it looks as if they raised £2,000 for them.
She said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, they had a lot of laughs wherever they went and that they would do it again without hesitation. They had a huge welcome from Lions clubs along their route.”
