Well used to dealing with the “ruff” seas, a crew from the Penlee lifeboat were called to rescue a dog that had swum out to see chasing seagulls.
The young pup had doggy paddled a quarter of a mile off Long Rock Beach , prompting calls from the public for the lifeboat crew to save the pooch.
An RNLI spokesman said that they would always respond if there was a concern that the owner or a worried member of the public is going to put themselves in danger trying to save the animal.
The dog was lifted aboard the Paul Alexander and taken to the lifeboat station where the grateful owner picked her up.
David Osborne, RNLI Helmsman for Penlee’s RNLI inshore lifeboat, said: “The young dog was a long way out from the beach but was glad to see us. She was a bit cold when we got her aboard but other than that she was fine. The owner was very grateful.”
