A St Ives man’s work with deaf and blind people has earned him the title of employee of the year for a national charity.
Simon Allison won the award for his dedication to supporting children with sensory impairments with charity Sense. He co-ordinates the Get Out There group, a unique project that gives deaf and blind teenagers in the Westcountry the chance to experience a range of activities from surfing and sailing to presenting on their local radio station.
Simon said: “I’m delighted to have won this award. The Get Out There group is a team effort to support deafblind teenagers and give them the same opportunities as their non-deafblind peers, while having a lot of fun.”
