MP Richard Ottaway has voiced fears for the Croydon employment market following the announcement that the Paynes factory in Croydon is to close.
He said: “These job losses are getting serious and bring into question the Government's claim that all is healthy in the economy. Progressive and strong local economies such as we have in Croydon shouldn't be seeing these kind of job losses if all were well with the economy.
“A serious problem in south London is suitable premises for the manufacturing sector and I would urge Croydon Council to ensure that the Paynes Poppet site is kept for manufacturing and not sold to residential development.”
