The Annual Christmas Cracker Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre was a real flyer this year. An entry of almost 150 head included freshly calved Holsteins and Jerseys together with Holstein followers from Cornwall.

The trade was on fire for the best with the champion Judged by Robert Pocock of Baymead selling for 2120gns for the Bettiscombe Linekar Dagmar Heifer entered along with 13 others from R E & H E Bugler. The reserve champion was the 46kg a day 2nd calver. Bettiscombe Talent Nellie that realised 1880gns from the same vendors. Ian Dimonds “Dorset” herd continued to attract a lot of interest with the calved heifer Dorset Faze Beauty selling for 2050gns and Dorset Summer Eclipse with 4 generations of VG & EX behind her selling for 2000gns. Despite dispersing the Huntlodge Herd back in 2007 Lionel & Gary Bagg are still finding “Huntlodge” calved heifers this time Huntlodge Talent Rosina out of 100 tonne VG88 cow and the 18 brood star 2nd dam Huntlodge Rosina Bell PI EX91(2) she realised 2000gns. In the bull section Ciderhouse Flintoff from David & Valerie Norman’s renowned Fleur family soared to a top price of 2000gns incalf heifers sold to 1420gns for Hartlandview Shottle Dulcie entered by Peachy Holsteins. Calves sold to 400gns x 7 for the Cloverfield entries of M J & M D Day of Wadebridge.

A large entry of Jerseys from both S E Lane & Partners of Kent and Stephen & Ruth Thomas of Cornwall saw the best trade of the year with Hareplain Sambo Robbie a VG86 5th calver selling to 1660gns for the Lane family with others to 950gns and 920gns. The Cornish Entry rose to 1040gns twice for Tremeeremanor Idorn Daisy a 3rd calver with a PLI of 136 and Hollesley Craigmore a 2nd calver freshly calved with a PLI of 80.

The sale was certainly a cracker!
