The future of both Falmouth Coastguards and the search and rescue helicopter service at Culdrose are in doubt this week as government spending cuts continue to be announced.

A number of coastguard stations around the country are due to shut. It is not clear whether that will include the coastguard centre at Pendennis Point.

The search and rescue helicopter service at Culdrose is expected to go out to private enterprise, possibly a French firm. It has been under threat before but was then saved at the last minute. Now it appears the change is inevitable.

Also this week, Cornwall Council should know how much money it is to receive from central government as the cuts begin to bite.
