Nankersey Rowing Club were enlisted at the weekend to spread some Christmas Cheer aboard the Fryderyk Chopin.

Many will remember the sorrowful pictures of the Fryderyk Chopin as she limped into port after suffering severe damage south of the Isles of Scilly.

The ship and five permanent crew are still at anchor in Falmouth Harbour awaiting go ahead for repairs from the insurers.

Falmouth Tall Ship chairman John Hick decided a Christmas tree should be delivered to the ship and liaison officer Anne Oliver, who is also chairman of Nankersey Rowing Club based in Mylor, came up with the idea of rowing it out to the ship with her team members.

Also in on the action was Penny Phillips from the Mission to Seafarers, who heard about the jaunt and supplied Christmas presents for all those onboard.

Penny said: “If a crew get into difficulties the Mission is here to help for such eventualities.”

Captain Ziemowit, onboard the ship, was delighted with the delivery and said he would be ‘Santa Claus’ to the crew.

Nankersey Rowing Club members were invited for a look around the ship and asked to sign the visitors’ book, while the first mate of Fryderyk Chopin got a chance to row the gig.
