The odds of a white Christmas in west Cornwall were not high today as the Met Office said that the worst of the winter white-out could be over – at least for the time being.

In fact west Cornwall was bathing in sunshine and blue skies this morning plus a rise in temperature.

Met officials, however, said it was still too early to say whether it would be a white Christmas in the region although because of freezing temperatures continuing to exist, snow already on the ground was likely to hang around over the weekend making it a white Christmas for some.

The cold weather is expected to continue for the time being although nearer the coast it could be a little warmer.

Night-time temperatures in west Cornwall have already been at their lowest for several years although it has been business as usual for almost everyone.

The snow fell mainly on high ground over the moors and in east Cornwall where it led to difficulties for many people hoping to get away for the festive period or expecting friends and relatives to visit them from up-country.

Forecasters say it is going to be mostly dry and cold for the rest of this week.
