Budding young musicians from Camborne drummed up some beats as part of initiative to encourage children to get creative.

The youngsters took part in workshops at Trevo Family Centre, which introduced them to musical instruments and music software to create a song for campaigns by children’s charity Action for Children.

The workshops were led by the Cornwall Youth Inclusion Support Project (YISP), based in Bodmin, which is run by Action for Children and encourages children and young people to stay in education, deal with anger issues and lead healthy lives.

Kevin Downing, the project worker leading the Cornwall YISP initiative, said: “The workshops gave some of the young people we work with the opportunity to express themselves in a creative way and showcase their skills and talents to build greater confidence and self-belief. We focused on Action for Children’s ‘as long as it takes’ campaign and we will create a song to reflect this theme and how Cornwall YISP helps the youngsters for ‘as long as it takes’.”

Ten-year-old Josh, who attended the workshops, said: "It was great, I really enjoyed it. I'd like to play the guitar and drums again."
