A new mayor of Porthleven has been elected. Mark Berryman became only the second mayor of the port, after taking over from Rev Harry Pugh who has been in the post for two years.

Rev Pugh thanked his consort, Mrs Pete Head, for her company over the two terms and presented her with a bunch of orange roses.

Speaking of his time in office Rev Pugh said: “I never dreamt I would become vice chairman of the council, let alone first mayor of Porthleven.”

He thanked councillors for giving him such as “great responsibility,” describing it as a “great honour, privilege and pleasure.”

Mr Berryman said Rev Pugh had carried out his duties “in his own inimitable way” and said he looked forward to following in his footsteps.
